Nordstrom Sale Looks For Less

As I’ve been shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, one of the things I’ve noticed is that there are a lot of high end styles that have a very similar, and more affordable, style from another brand which is also included. I always love finding ‘Looks for Less’, especially when the pieces are coming from a retailer that I know and trust. And, in the event something doesn’t work out, Nordstrom’s generous return policy makes trying out new brands and products risk-free.

I’ve gone through and picked out a few of my favorite pieces that have a ‘Look for Less’ doppelgänger, and included when it’s worth it to save, or splurge!

Would you believe the first top is more than twice the cost of the other two combined?? While the FRAME top is silk, and has the wide placket detailing, this is one I’d pass on in favor of the WAYF Pajama Top, or Vince Camuto Piped Keyhole Blouse.

This Theory blouse is strikingly similar to one of my favorite dresses from last year- the bell sleeves and relaxed peplum are soft and feminine and so flattering. At $90 off, this is a piece that is a great investment in a brand that always delivers quality, timeless styles. The looks for less are nearly identical in style, so if there’s another hot item on your wish list, the  WAYF Bell Sleeve Top or Gibson Ruffle Hem Bell Sleeve Blouse are great options- and give you a few color options, too!

As it may be clear, Theory has been one of my favorite designers featured in this sale. So many of their items included are versatile, classic, and are able to be dressed up or worn more casually. This dress is the same style as one of my favorites from last year, and is back this year in a beautiful navy with a white floral print (which also comes in a top with a similar, less expensive option here). This Vince Camuto dress is similar in both the shape, and print, with the addition of pretty ladder stitching accenting the sleeves and running up the bodice.

Save or Splurge: SPLURGE (SAVE on the blouse!)

This DVF dress and this Madewell dress are basically the same on paper. Shirtdress- check. Black and white dots- check. Flounce at the sleeve- check. Ok, so the sleeve length are neckline are different, but do those difference make one worth more than twice the cost as the other??

I cannot believe how many variations of olive jacket with pink fur trim there are! They’re all very cute, and most of them are at a very affordable price point, and have removable fur trim. This is great for an item that really is a year round staple, with enough of a pop to feel almost trendy, in a mature way. The Derek Lam coat is the only one with real fur, and has the same mid-length styling as the Guess and Sebby versions. If a shorter jacket is more your style, this BCBGeneration Puffy Bomber has a little less jacket length, and a little more collar drama!

Shoes are one area where I almost always feel like spending more on higher end brands is the way to go. Living in a city, I do a lot of walking and wear my shoes hard. I’ve found that higher end brands are more comfortable, provide more support, don’t wear out as quickly, and in general last longer, making them a better value in the long run. With that being said, there were a few deals that were just too good to pass up! I’ve had my eye on these rag & bone booties for a few years, but have yet to bring them home. This year the sale is full of booties in the same color, with similar styling. These Hinge booties are not only adorable and comfortable, they are also $200 less than the rag & bone. I also love this pair, that has a little extra interest with the addition of crisscross straps, and come in the perfect color that is right in between a taupe and grey.

Save or Splurge: SAVE (if they become your wear-with-everything shoe, invest next year!)

Slip-on sneakers are a trend that I have resisted up until now, but the ease and functionality has grown on me, and now they are all I can think about. Who wants to waste time tying their shoes like a sucker when a pair of slip-ons gets you out the door and to the coffee shop faster? Certainly not me. The first pair that caught my eye was this Vince style, coming in an array of different rich fall colors, in luxe fabrics like velvet and satin. Going down the rabbit hole, I came across this pair by Blondo, which also come in a wide variety of colors and materials that are equally as expensive looking, but are also waterproof (!). I like the Mushroom shade in these, and the Navy Satin in the Vince.

Save or Splurge: TOSS UP…but leaning heavily toward SAVE (I really love the Navy in the Vince, but would hate to ruin the delicate satin material. The waterproof feature is really appealing in a shoe that I would wear casually, and wouldn’t want to be to precious.)
